Design Overview

Retractable enclosures are composed of individual bays or sections.  The bays are telescopic so they retract, one inside the other.  Each bay has it's own set of wheels which are mounted on a track system, guiding each bay as it opens and closes.  The enclosure can be fully or partially opened using an automated drive system which handles the physical movement of the enclosure with the simple push of a button.

Frame

COVERS in Play enclosures have a uniquely designed frame assembly (patent pending) and are made from an extruded aluminum alloy.  The design of the frame includes an integrated gutter system which collects and channels any internal condensation away from the panels to the outside of the enclosure.

The aluminum frame is finished with a premium quality architectural paint  (also known as PVDF coating) and is available in a range of colours.  The PVDF coating exhibits outstanding resistance to humidity, color change, chalk, gloss shift and chemical cleaning.  In addition, it meets or exceeds all criteria of the AAMA (American Architectural Manufacturers Association) 2605 specification.

Glazing & Seals

The side and roof panels are made from either clear acrylic or twin wall polycarbonate.  Other colour choices are also available.

In order to provide protection from the elements, each panel is compressed between two seals.  Thermal break fasteners are also installed to help reduce heat loss.

Track

When opening or closing the enclosure, the wheels of the telescoping bays are guided on parallel tracks.  The tracks are made from an extruded aluminum alloy  and have an anodized finish.  They are available in a range of colours including bronze, gray and brown.

Installation of the track requires a relatively flat, smooth surface.  The tracks are then secured with stainless steel fasteners.  A locking system is installed to secure the bay to the track at all times. There is no need to further secure the bays with locking pins or anchors.

Automated Drive System

COVERS in Play provides an automated drive system (patent pending) which allows the enclosure to be opened or closed with the push of a button.  This feature is unique in the industry.  No manual pushing is required!

In order to ensure the safe operation of the automated drive system, several security measures have been incorporated.  First, a key must be inserted before the button can be used to open or close the enclosure.  In addition, movement of the enclosure will cease when the button is released.

COVERS in Play includes the automated drive system as a standard feature on all enclosures.

Sizes

COVERS in Play enclosures have a patent pending design that allows the standard vertical panel sizes to be quite large (6' wide x 6.5' high).   Cross bracing of the vertical panels is not required, thus providing a clear, unobstructed view of the outdoors.

The standard length for each bay ranges from 6-18 feet.  Enclosures can be designed to include as many sections as necessary to enclose the designated area.

Custom sizes can also be accomodated.  Please contact us for further details.

Hardware

The enclosure is assembled using only stainless steel hardware and fasteners.

Doors and Windows

Each enclosure comes with two tempered glass sliding doors (including locks and screens).  The enclosure's rigid frame design allows for the sliding doors to be made of glass rather than acrylic or polycarbonate.  Glass is less susceptible to scratching in high traffic areas.
